Passenger luggage consists of wearing apparel and toiletries carried for the personal use of the passenger in a suitcase, backpack or travel bag.
Valuable items such as passports, medicines, laptop computers, cameras, jewellery, fragile or perishable items must be carried on board as cabin baggage.
It is recommended for passengers to keep cash, credit cards and other items of value on their person at all times.
Your luggage should not obstruct aisles or doorways.
Identification tags should be fixed to all items, including hand luggage.
Please note: If you are travelling onto another transport carrier, luggage requirements/allowances may vary. Please check with your consultant or the carrier for further information.

Luggage Check-In
Where luggage check-in facilities are available, checked luggage opens one (1) hour prior to the scheduled departure time and closes 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. Checked luggage liability for loss or damage is limited to $200.
Acceptable Luggage
A passenger’s checked luggage allowance is two (2) items of luggage per person with a maximum weight of 20kg and a maximum size of 180 linear* centimetres per item. Passengers may also take one (1) item of carry on luggage on to any Traveltrain service to a maximum size of 23cm x 34cm x 48cm.
* Linear = The sum of the height plus the length plus the depth. 20 Kilograms = 44 pounds.
The following items are accepted as one item of acceptable luggage: Suitcases: Includes backpacks and travel bags with a maximum weight of 20kg and a maximum size of 180 linear* centimetres per item.
Boxes: Must be securely taped or bound and comply with size (maximum 40cm x 40cm x 40cm), weight regulations (20kg) and contents are bona fide passenger’s luggage.
Baby Items: Baby strollers and capsules are accepted and can be stored in luggage racks provided.
Note: All other items including bicycles, surfboards and golf bags may be subject to available storage space on services and may incur an extra fee. Please check with your consultant or the carrier for further information.
Checked Luggage
Passengers may check in only two (2) items of luggage per person with a maximum weight of 20kg and a maximum size of 180 linear* centimetres per item. Checked luggage liability for loss or damage is limited to $200.
Carry On Luggage
Passengers may carry unchecked luggage onto Traveltrain services and it must be placed under a seat, sleeping berth or in the luggage racks provided. Items unable to fit under the passenger’s seat or sleeping berth or in a luggage rack or shelf will not be accepted for carriage.
Unchecked luggage items must be within the weight and size restrictions listed in acceptable luggage.
Unchecked luggage is carried at the owner’s risk.
Unacceptable/Dangerous Goods
For safety and security reasons, dangerous goods MUST NOT BE CARRIED in a passenger’s checked or unchecked luggage.
INCLUDING:
- compressed gases (exemption for medicinal oxygen for consumption en route),
- corrosives,
- explosives,
- munitions,
- flammable liquids,
- plants or animal matter,
- biological hazards,
- radioactive materials,
- poisons and infectious substances such as matches,
- medicines, toiletries such as hair sprays, perfumes and deodorants may be carried.

Passengers with Special Needs
If you have special needs, require assistance or you are travelling with your wheelchair, please contact Traveltrain on 1300 131 722, so necessary arrangements may be made.
Our onboard staff are available to aid passengers with special needs including assisting them when boarding and disembarking, moving to and from their seat, sleeping berth, accessing the toilets and shower entrance, and if required, serve meals to their seats.
However, our onboard staff cannot lift passengers in any way or provide any form of nursing assistance such as giving injections, medication, helping passengers on or off the toilet pedestal, and washing passengers. Should a passenger require assistance of this kind it is the responsibility of the passenger to arrange for a carer to travel with them.
Wheelchairs
Passengers travelling on any Tilt Train service may travel in their own wheelchair, subject to size specifications and availability. Reservations are required.
There is also wheelchair access to a specially designed toilet.
For all Traveltrain services a collapsible wheelchair is available onboard to aid passengers with restricted mobility to get to and from their seat or sleeping berth or when boarding and disembarking.
Wheelchairs or mobility scooters will be carried free of charge.
Guide Dogs and Assistance Animals
Guide dogs and assistance animals are carried on Traveltrain services free of charge. Please contact Traveltrain on 1300 131 722 so necessary arrangements may be made.
